Shaw's Cove Sewage Lift Station Rehabilitation and Systems Upgrade Print E-mail

Owner: City of Laguna Beach
Value of Construction: $1,935,895
Completion Date: March 2009

Shaw’s Cove is one of the top destination sites for diving in the Orange County area. Located in Laguna Beach, CA, it is among the best options for open-water scuba training and diving along the Southern California coast. Shaw’s Cove Lift Station is almost 60 years old and pumps 40,000 gallons of wastewater per day.

Orion’s construction of the new sewage lift station included:

  • Demolition of existing building and portion of floor slabs

  • All labor, materials and equipment for the construction of new dry/wet well structures

  • New building complete with copper roof and doors with Architectural bronze inlays

  • Retaining walls were not included in the original design report, but halfway through construction Orion realized that the slope would not support the weight of the surrounding houses thus resulting in a change order from the City of Laguna Beach to build the walls

  • Removal and replacement of the existing beach access path

  • New equipment such as pumps, piping, valves, ventilation system, generator, fuel, storage tank, MCC, instrumentation, conduits, wires, doorways, hoist & trolleys, hatches, lighting

  • Converting and retrofitting existing facilities for sewer junction box and overflow emergency storage system

  • Maintaining a temporary lift station system at all times.

Orion was awarded the APWA 2009 Project of the Year for the Shaw’s Cove Lift Station Reconstruction.
